Heimatortsgemeinschaft Filipowa

History

Filipowa, Filipovo, Szentfülöp (today: Bački Gračac)

During the second Theresian settlement period (1763-1768) Filipowa was settled mostly by Catholic Germans, and to a lesser extent also by Austrians, Bohemians and Moravians.

Until 1944 it remained a purely German and purely Catholic community and was particularly well-known for its abundance of children. The few Hungarian and Slavic state officials as well as Slavic agricultural workers made up the town's small other-ethnic minority.
